Follow the Red Bull X-Alps 2019 with live-tracking in 2D and 3D

For the adventure race Red Bull X-Alps 2019, we implemented the athlete tracking on 2D and 3D maps in cooperation with ZOOOM. We couldn’t wait to finally see our work live at the prologue on June 13th and at the race that started on June 16th!

On the athletes’ tracks

Across the Alps from Salzburg to Monaco – that’s what the 32 participants of the Red Bull X-Alps race were facing. Spectators were able to follow the action online: The athletes were tracked live on 2D and 3D maps. The highlight was the cockpit mode, from which you could experience the athletes’ paragliding flights from first-person view. The maps were enriched with information on the waypoints and the athletes themselves.

If you’re curious to find out more, see how we built the application and make sure to check out all the live-tracking features on the X-Alps website:

A sport of superlatives

So what is Red Bull X-Alps 2019? On their way through six countries, the X-Alps athletes had to pass 13 waypoints in the Alps. How they made it, was up to them. The goal was to reach the final waypoint as quickly as possible using a tactical combination of running, hiking, paragliding, and mountaineering. And as if that weren’t enough, unusual weather conditions with lots of snow posed an additional challenge.
